Observatory 50 is an interactive installation that draws a direct line to the history of Victor Civita Square, a former incinerator site in São Paulo. Because the soil is contaminated, the public area was built on a floating wooden deck, isolating visitors from the ground below.
The title "Observatory 50" alludes to the 50 centimeters of clean soil that were deposited over the contaminated area. As people walk on a small wooden deck built in front of the old incinerator, sensors activate a laser system. Depending on the number and position of participants, different virtual grids are formed, outlining the visible but inaccessible space of the planted area.
This interaction creates a dialogue between the participants and the environment, evoking a sense of suspension, imbalance, and inaccessibility while transforming a hidden space into a visible spectacle.
